Bath assistant fire chief lauded

At the May 3 meeting, Bath Borough Council President Mark Saginario opened with a courtesy of the floor segment. A brief heartfelt ceremony was held for Gerald “Junior” DeGarmo, who retired from the Bath Fire Department as assistant chief. His work with the fire department spanned a stunning 36 years.

Mayor Fiorella Reginelli-Mirabito awarded DeGarmo with a plaque to recognize his service to Bath Borough.

“It has been a pleasure. You are by far the best council I have worked with,” DeGarmo said.

All elected officials and residents present thanked him for his unwavering service to Bath.

Saginario then continued with the courtesy of the floor but requested those present not bring up anything about policing as there will be a special courtesy of the floor specifically about policing in Bath. A resident brought up a concern the red garbage cans are out days before garbage collection day and are visible throughout the week. The ordinance addressing this indicates a garbage can cannot be visible from the street. The violator can be subject to a fine.

“That’s pathetic. Cans are out on a Saturday and garbage pickup is not until Wednesday,” the resident remarked.

Saginario explained the ordinance governing garbage cans will have to be tweaked.

“If we enforced the ordinance in its present form, we would have to treat every resident fairly,” he said. “There would have to be summons issued to about 300 residents” who routinely violate the ordinance.

Council plans to revisit the ordinance in question.

Representatives of the Bath museum asked if climate-controlled storage bins and measures have been located. It was expressed the numerous historical pictures, papers and other items will need climate-controlled measures to keep them from deteriorating. Saginario reported council is seeking the proper storage to preserve the artifacts.

Also brought up was a question if the large historical quilt will be hung in the new borough office. Saginario said it would.

There was a request by museum committee members present to visit the new borough office during renovation. Council member Carol Bear-Heckman said that is a good idea to facilitate planning but should occur later as the renovations near completion.

Fire Chief Emilio DiNisi asked if there is an ordinance about drone use in the borough. Saginario said there is none at this time.

DiNisi also asked the borough office to announce that pool fills are starting soon. If there are any residents who need their pool filled, they should contact the borough office. Pool fills are a fundraising effort for the fire department.
