LHS girls track wins

Liberty’s girls’ track and field team’s first visit to the new Freedom High School track ended in a 108-36 victory for the Hurricanes over the Patriots last Monday.

The Hurricanes had 15 first place finishes, including Payton Shaffer in the 100 meter dash in 11.9, Jade Dallam in the 200 meter dash in 26.9, and Greta Stuckey in the 400 meter dash in 1:00.

“I could feel [the other runners] were pretty close, and the Freedom girl [Morgan Weaver] has a really nice kick, so I saved a little for the end,” said Stuckey. “I started out pretty fast. I don’t really know how to use the blocks because I’m a distance runner, but...”

Alicia Valladares won the 800 meter run in 2:30, Raisa Kochmaruk was first in the 1600 meter run in 5:19, and Rachel Byrne won the 3200 meter run in 12:49.

Hazel Deschamps won both hurdling events, the 100 in 18.2 and the 300 in 52.6.
