Freedom boys lacrosse claim division crown

It’s another milestone for Freedom’s boys lacrosse program, as the team recently solidified the East Penn Conference West title.

The Pates (11-6, 9-4) have won six straight contests following Monday’s 15-2 thumping over Liberty, giving them an undefeated season in the division, as well as setting a school record for regular season wins (11).

Head coach Tony Fabrizio sees the progress of winning the programs first division crown, as a steppingstone in the right direction for a program continually looking to improve their status in the EPC.

“Obviously, winning the division is a great feeling,” said Fabrizio. “What is great to see, is that our recent wins have been complete team efforts. We have finally figured out who our team is, and our chemistry is none like I’ve seen here at Freedom. We have a great group of boys. Everyone has a role that has contributed to our success. For our program, winning the division pushes us closer to becoming one of the top tier teams in the Valley.”

The next step for the Pates would be to qualify for the EPC playoffs.

The Pates have accomplished a lot this season and separating themselves with the rest of the teams in their division and continuing to build their own lacrosse legacy is what Fabrizio is proud of when talking about the program.

“I believe one of the biggest reasons the program has taken off is the feeder program at BTAA,” he said. “Freedom gets the luxury of getting most of the players. Players are coming in with a core set of skills. We can spend less time teaching the fundamentals and move to more advanced concepts.”

Same can be said for the FHS girls program, who knocked off Liberty Monday 17-6 to close out the regular season.

The win pushes the Pates to 12-6 over all and 10-4 in the league, but keeps them out of the playoff race because they fell short of a wild card berth with Emmaus (13-5, 8-2).
