“People should vote for me because I am the most experienced candidate running for Magisterial District Judge. I have been an active trial attorney for over 35 years. Throughout my career, I have represented plaintiffs and defendants in court. I have handled both criminal and civil cases, as well as all other matters decided by the Magisterial District Judge. I had an active general practice in Allentown which included landlord-tenant litigation, criminal defense, summary and traffic offenses, and domestic matters. I served as a divorce master for several years in Lehigh County, and I later became a trial attorney. I have taken thousands of depositions of parties and witnesses, litigated cases in the Common Pleas Courts and Magisterial District Courts in Northampton, Lehigh, and all the surrounding counties, and tried hundreds of cases to award or verdict. I have litigated cases in Federal Court, the PA Superior Court and the PA Supreme Court. I am the only candidate who has publicly announced that I will not continue to practice law after I am elected. This will avoid potential conflicts of interest with private clients and allow me to devote my full time to the position of Magisterial District Judge.
(D, R): Vivian Zumas
(D, R): Michael Recchiuti
“I believe that my experience and education make me the best candidate for District Judge. I am the only candidate that has spent their entire legal career in private practice representing the people of this community, and the only candidate to have held elected office, having served this community honorably as a Bethlehem City councilman. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated and proven that I have the experience and required temperament to be District Judge for our community. I promise as judge I will be fair and impartial, uphold the law, and allow all coming before me to have their voice heard.”
(D, R): Raymond J. Lynn
District 03-02-04 - Judge
(D, R): Alan R. Mege
“I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University and The Dickinson School of Law and have practiced law for almost 20 years. I am the most experienced, qualified and independent candidate. Not only do I have more legal and judicial experience than any other candidate, I also have taken a pledge not to accept financial contributions to assure that my decisions are based solely on the law. I am the only candidate that is not accepting donations for his campaign. The office of Magisterial District Judge is the first line of defense between our community and the criminal justice system. Our community cannot afford on the job training. As long time residents and active members of St. Theresa Church, the safety of our community is of paramount importance to my family, as it is to yours. With my extensive experience in the Courts, I am uniquely qualified to step into the position as Magisterial District Judge and work efficiently and effectively starting on day one.”
(D, R): Robert Mateff
(D, R): James W. Hill
As a lifelong area resident and former law enforcement officer, I am very concerned about the safety and prosperity of our community. My wife Lynette and I live in Hellertown, where I presently serve on Hellertown Borough Council. We are both active in the community, volunteering at our church, as members of the Hellertown Lions Club. I serve on several local government commissions and nonprofit boards, and am a member of the Lower Saucon Township Historical Society, the Hellertown Sportsman’s Association, and Dewey Fire Company. As a practicing attorney in Pennsylvania for over 16 years, I have been involved with handling thousands of civil and criminal cases. I am dedicated to the legal profession, and also to serving my community. I have always believed that the law is about meeting the needs of the community, protecting our families and upholding the values that make our area so special. I am committed to closing my law practice upon being elected, to help avoid conflicts of interest and keep the District Judge position as my top priority. My knowledge of the law, the rules of evidence and procedure, and my ability to apply the law to the facts of a given case – combined with my experience, judicial temperament, and firm but fair approach to criminal justice matters ensure that I will be an exceptional Magisterial District Judge.

District 03-02-11 - Judge
(D, R): Nick Englesson
“I am a lifelong Bethlehem resident. I am the only candidate who has a law degree. I have a record of public service stretching back over 35 years. I have been a trial lawyer for nearly 40 years and have handled every type of case that comes before a District Judge, from speeding tickets to homicide. I was a prosecutor in Northampton County for 17 years. I have run my own courtroom as a Judicial Hearing Officer in Northampton County Juvenile Court for 8 years. The other candidates have no such experience. I have a reputation on the community for being fair-minded, ethical, competent, and respectful of those who come before me. I am the only candidate who is legally qualified to hold this office.”

“I believe the voters will support me because I have been a leader on the BASD board for the past eight years. I have worked with the administration to move the BASD forward while dealing with extremely difficult financial conditions. I have worked hard to have the BASD at the table when important education issues are being discussed in Harrisburg. My work with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association has put a spotlight on our district and my PSBA presidency will bring more attention to the good work being done here in Bethlehem.”
(D, R): Shannon L. Patrick
“I will continue to work with the board and administration to ensure every child gets a quality education. We will continue to support full day kindergarten and the Reading by Grade 3 Initiative. The new Nitschmann MS will open its doors in the fall. There are great things happening in the district. Now is not the time to slow down. We want to see Elementary Spanish rolled out, additional after school activities added, all while fiscally responsible. The better and more attractive Bethlehem Area School District is, the better and more attractive our community is.”
(D. R): Angela T. Sinkler
“My experiences in the BASD schools – seeing our great teachers in action firsthand while volunteering, and observing my daughter’s excellent educational experiences propelled me to run for School Director four years ago. I truly believe great schools make a great community, and I have witnessed this firsthand at Fountain Hill, Broughal and Liberty through my daughter’s experiences, and in each and every one of our other elementary, middle schools and Freedom HS. I will continue to work with the board to support the programs that are working (Full Day Kindergarten, Reading By Third Grade Initiative, Career Pathways in the High Schools to name a few), make improvements where needed, and to secure the best possible education, and therefore future for current students and generations of students to come through the BASD.”
