Bethlehem Catholic’s girls’ track and field team throwers propelled the Hawks to a 78.50-65.50 victory over Freedom last week with first, second, and third place finishes in each event.
Rachel Tanczos won the shot put with a distance of 35-04, Julia Zambo was second with a distance of 31-09, and Sarah Baumann was third with a distance of 31-03.
Tanczos also won the discus with a distance of 128-11, followed by Tessa Zamolyi with a distance of 102-01, and Zambo, who had a distance of 84-09.
“I want to get to 140,” Tanczos said. “There are a lot of tricky techniques that take a long time to iron out. [Throwing coach] Coach Lang is the most dedicated coach, and when I get home, there’s always an email with different videos that help.”
Zamolyi won the javelin with a distance of 106-08, Madeline Comp placed second with a distance of 80-09, and Mikhayla Rogowsky placed third with a distance of 78-04.
In other events, top finishers for the Hawks were Lauren Bunke in the 800 meter run in 2:28, Rowan Pepe in the 3200 meter run in 11:51, Grace Domyan in the 100 hurdles in 20.0, and Liz Lieb in the long jump with a distance of 16-01.75.
Top finishers for the Patriots included Kaitlyn Swint in the 100 meter dash in 13.0, Morgan Weaver in the 400 meter dash in 1:02, Ally Young in the 1600 meter run in 5:58, and Tamia Wright in the 300 hurdles in 55.0.
Madison McTier took first place in the high jump in 4-09 and in the triple jump in 35-06.50, and Emma Pfeiffer won the pole vault with a height of 9-06.
Becahi won the 4x1 relay, and Freedom won the 4x4 and 4x8.
