When Northampton’s softball team bounces back from a loss, it bounces back big, evidenced by the K-Kids 12-2 victory over Pleasant Valley and 16-3 victory over Nazareth last weekend.
Last Saturday’s Nazareth game was also an opening day of sorts for the KKids, their first game on their new softball field.
“It’s a great field to play on, and it made winning even better. I think the new field gave us a lot of momentum,” said Kaitlyn Perl, who had two home runs against the Blue Eagles. “After the first one, it wasn’t likely I was looking for another. It just happened. I was just looking to get on base.”
Northampton scored six runs in the first inning, two runs in the second, and eight runs in the third.
Perl was 3 for 4.
“It felt really good, and that’s when our team got the bats going again,” Perl said.
Elizabeth Moore, who went 4 for 4, and Hannah Boggs, who went 3 for 4, had a home run apiece.
“Their pitcher [Sam Gorkos] threw really fast,” said Moore. “We thought they were going to be tough competition.”
On Saturday, however, it was the other way around as the Blue Eagles had only five hits to Northampton’s 18.
Taylor Keeney was the winning pitcher for the Kids.
In Northampton’s game against Pleasant Valley, the Kids had 22 hits.
Heather Alich was 2 for 4 with a home run, Hallie Muffley hit a home run and had three runs, and Perl went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Perl was also the winning pitcher.
“We just had our focus going,” Perl said. “We know we have to win big games.”
