EHS boys lacrosse rebounds from loss

Winning cures all, and the best remedy for a loss is following it up with a win. That’s just what the Emmaus boys lacrosse team did last week over a two-day span.

After a 12-8 defeat to defending Eastern Pennsylvania Conference champion Easton last Monday, the first loss of the season for the Green Hornets, they followed up less than 24 hours later, taking down Liberty 13-0 last Tuesday night at Memorial Field.

It was a welcome sight for sixth-year head coach Scott Ketcham.

“It’s nice to be able to get back out here so quickly and not have to think about it,” Ketcham said on the Liberty win after the loss. “We worked on a lot of different things [Tuesday], and played a lot better than what we did [Monday], and it showed. We were more methodical with the game plan and were more patient out there.

“The Liberty guys fought hard and didn’t give us anything easy.”

Nine different Green Hornets players scored goals, and 10 recorded points in a well-balanced offensive display. For a young team experiencing its first loss through seven games, the setback did not seem to phase them.

“They reacted well and showed some resiliency,” Ketcham said. “We watched a ton of film. We actually came out a little late for pre-game warmups because we got caught up in watching film. These kids are hardworking kids and want to get better.

“It’s really nice to see as a coach. They show up hours before a game to watch film, and then go out and play, especially the day after a tough loss in the heat. We’re 7-1 now and that’s a good spot to be midway through the season.”

Emmaus jumped in front early, scoring five goals in each of the first two quarters to take a double-digit lead at halftime.

Once goal number 11 was scored, Ketcham was able to bring in some younger players and rest his regulars on their second game in two days.

“All of these kids work hard, so it’s nice to see everyone contribute,” said Ketcham. “We’re pleased with how everyone performed, and to move on from tonight with the victory. We just have to continue to work hard and stay healthy.”

Corbin Carraghan, Jarod Lichtenwalner (2), Gabe Vansuch (2), Tyler Corpora, Brent Meilinger (2), Liam Gilley, Hunter Krauss (2), Chris Schmitt and Jared Baker all recorded goals for Emmaus.

Krauss and Corpora each had two assists, and Adam Conway tallied an assist in the win.

The Green Hornets entered a tough stretch with games this week against Central Catholic (Tuesday), at Parkland Thursday and against Syosset (NY) Saturday.
