AAUW’s book sale opens April 20

The Bethlehem chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is currently hard at work making preparations for its 55th annual used book sale. Over 50 volunteers and area high school students seeking to meet community service requirements have been collecting, sorting and pricing donations at the Memorial Pool House located at 359 Illick’s Mill Road.

Book sale co-chairs Rita Bergstrom and Debbie Spinney said that patrons can expect about 60,000 books, CDs and DVDs to be available. Proceeds provide scholarships that benefit graduating high school seniors and others who return to higher learning after a hiatus, and fund other educational programs both locally and nationally.

In 2016 approximately $25,000 was given in scholarships according to Spinney.

The 2017 Book Fair begins on Thursday, April 20 with a preview day. Patrons are charged a $20 entry fee from 2 to 3 p.m. and $15 entry fee from 3 until 6 p.m.

Free entry days are scheduled on Friday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., one-half price day on Sunday, April 23 from 12 to 6 p.m., and bag day on Monday, April 24 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. when a standard shopping bag may be filled for a flat fee of $7 per bag.

Electronic devices are permitted. Information is also available at bethlehem-pa.aauw.net/events/book-fair or by calling the pool house at 610-865-7002.
