Weisenberg students learn safety tips

Weisenberg Elementary kindergarten students recently learned about remaining safe in the car, at home, in school and outdoors when they visited “Safety Town.”

William McQuilken, of Lehigh Valley Health Network, greeted students as they entered the gym and talked to them about staying safe in a vehicle.

He told kindergarteners about the importance of wearing a seatbelt and using a car seat or booster seat.

Students also learned bus safety and the importance of dialing 911 in an emergency.

Other stations set up in the gym showed the students how to cross a street; never go to a park without an adult; how to be safe around unfamiliar dogs; what to be aware of in the kitchen, living room and outdoors.

McQuilken stressed the students should never talk to strangers and to never approach a car if they are asked to find a lost dog or a similar request from someone they do not know.

The students learned if they were to be approached by a stranger they should scream as loud as they can and run away.

Most importantly, they should tell their parents what happened.
