Reenock announces re-election run for mayor’s seat
Northampton Borough Mayor Thomas D. Reenock has announced his plans to run for re-election in the May primary.
“I am honored to serve and represent the residents of the borough,” he said. “As a lifelong resident, my ambitions are always in and for the borough. I have dedicated a greater part of my life to working with borough council, the administration and our community groups to achieve our goals.”
Reenock has served as mayor since 1994. He has also been a borough councilman and council president. He has served on the health board, building code hearing board, chamber of commerce, planning commission and zoning hearing board.
He served as president of the Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania, 2013-15.
Reenock has been involved in many projects throughout his years with the borough. Some of them include the borough complex - administration, police and public works site - the D.A.R.E. program, Northampton Area Food Bank and Northampton Area Historical Society.
He has worked to improve the Canal Street Park Heritage Walkway and gazebo and has helped with the Community Days festival, borough Easter egg hunt and Sister City anniversary, among others.
“The mayor’s job is not to play it safe, but to represent, speak out and, with your help, do an efficient job by putting personalities aside and seek good, responsible government,” Reenock said. “By being a good listener, my primary concern is to recognize the needs of the residents and the borough to use common sense in the use of our tax dollars.”
Reenock is a volunteer with American Cancer Society, Dream Come True, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Meals on Wheels, to name a few.
“I would like to use my 42 years of combined experience as councilman, council president and mayor to further benefit the community,” he said.
Reenock, 77, is a retired journeyman, wireman and electrician and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 375.
He is a U.S. veteran, serving in the Air Force 1958-62.
A graduate of Northampton High School, Class of 1958, Reenock is the husband of the late Patricia (Bloszinsky) Reenock. He has two children - Terry, husband of Gloria (Deegan), and Tammy - and two grandchildren, Brayden and Kelly.
