Freedom High School’s softball team will roster a squad of 14, including five returners and a new pitcher, for the 2017 season.
“We have a large squad this year,” said Patriot head coach Nora Borger, who is beginning her fifth season at Freedom. “They all worked really hard in the off season.”
Returning for the Patriots are Jana Boksan at catcher, and Arielle Gonzalez, Shalyn Banas, Julia Roman, and Taylor Resetar, all outfielders.
Newcomers are Camryn Spina at shortstop/second base, Jordan Umstead at pitcher, Raechel Locadia, also at pitcher, Maddy Sheffer at first base, Leah Thomas at shortstop/second base, Samantha Barton at outfield, Alix Scheidler at outfield/infield, Ciara Barbosa at infield, Rachel Black at third base, Caitlin Hornbaker, also at third base, and Alexa Fancera at infield.
Freshmen on the varsity squad are Juliana Presto, Makenzie Smith, and Glorianne Potenza.
“If we operate as a unit, understand the importance of teamwork, believe in each other, and support each other, we will be in good shape,” Borger said. “They continue to work hard and improve every day. The coaching staff is really proud of them.”
Weather-permitting, the Patriots will travel to Dieruff on Thursday and Nazareth on Saturday.
