Area tennis teams continue to battle the weather
Last week’s high school tennis matches were more a matter of hit or miss than win or lose because of inclement weather, so with only two matches played by Liberty so far this season, Bethlehem Catholic has played five, and both will face off this Thursday at Liberty.
The Hurricanes are currently 2-0, scoring 6-1 victories over Pleasant Valley and Stroudsburg.
Liberty coach Leo Schnalzer has kept Dan Lynn and Jacob Berg at number one and three singles, respectively, and both won their individual matches against the Bears and the Mountaineers.
Louis Gruber, a freshman, has been playing at two singles, and also won his two matches for the Hurricanes.
While permanent doubles pairs are still being considered, Duke Jin and Gavin Snyder, who played together last year, were separated.
As of late, Jin was paired with Luke Conrad at two doubles, and they won both of their matches. Snyder was paired with Marc Burritt at three doubles for the Stroudsburg match, and Burritt was then paired with Jacob Wong for the Pleasant Valley match. Both of those matches were also won by the Hurricanes.
The Hawks are currently 3-2, scoring 6-1 victories over East Stroudsburg South and Pocono Mountain East, and a 7-0 victory over East Stroudsburg North, and losing 5-0 to Saucon Valley and 7-0 to Emmaus.
Becahi coach George Harmanos has kept his singles line up intact with Colby Treadwell at one, Andrew Kaeser at two, and Hesshanth Jeyaranghan at three.
In the Hawks’ most recent match against the Cavaliers, Treadwell won 6-3, 6-3, as did Jeyaranghan 7-5, 6-4, and Kaeser lost 4-6, 0-6.
The number two doubles team of Matt Falteich and Dan Deshler also remained the same, and they beat the Cavaliers 6-1, 6-1.
Kyle Smedley & and Nick Cenek won their match at number three doubles 6-1, 6-1, and Sean Van Ormer and Jake Smedley won their match at four doubles 6-0, 6-2.
Treadwell & Kaeser won a close match against the Cavaliers at first doubles, 8-7.
Thursday’s rivalry match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
