Moore supervisors discuss reserve fund
At the March 7 meeting of Moore Township Board of Supervisors Chairperson David Tashner Sr., in a report on the road department, requested the supervisors develop an operating reserve fund.
Tashner reported the township was reimbursed by FEMA/PEMA about $30,000 - costs from this winter’s storm. The township’s actual costs were about $40,000. Tashner asked the supervisors to consider an operating reserve fund seeded with the federal and state reimbursement.
Supervisor Richard Gable replied to the request, saying, “We already have a fund with $11,000 in it.”
Gable requested the supervisors wait until tax revenue begins to arrive.
Supervisor Daniel Piorkowski agreed.
The request was tabled to the April meeting.
Currently, there is no fund to cover emergency expenses in the budget. After the meeting, Tashner told The Press the township has no emergency reserve fund.
“If this fund is initiated, it will greatly help deal with emergencies,” he said.
Tashner said he plans to revisit the issue next month with the supervisors.
Tashner also requested the supervisors consider developing a road maintenance plan, which would include road conditions, measurements and long-terms plans.
“We are falling behind on our road maintenance,” he said. “Let’s talk more about this next month.”
He explained the current way of addressing road maintenance is haphazard because a plan is lacking.
The fire department reported 47 calls, including four motor vehicle accidents, and there were 71 ambulance calls in February. The police reported four arrests during the month of February.
The township’s historical commission reported the plan for the Edelman School is proceeding. Volunteers also are working with the public to gather more information about the history of Moore Township.
The Land Preservation Committee reported that land preservation continues. There are active plans to preserve more farm acreage during 2017. To date, more than 2,000 acres have been preserved in the township.
The next Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting is 7 p.m. April 4 at the municipal building, 2494 Community Drive, Bath.
