At the East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting March 23, Supervisor Peggy Moser asked the board to reconsider compensating board members for health insurance costs. The fee for individual coverage purchased by the township approaches $13,000.
Presently, none of the existing members exercise the health coverage option, as they are covered under other programs.
Solicitor Joseph Piperato informed the board changes to compensation could not be retroactive to the present board. Changes would take place for township supervisors with terms starting after the election in 2018.
In the audience were candidates for open positions on the board.
Brian Budraitis is one of six Republican candidates in the May primary.
“I’m a new township resident, but I have been living in the Lehigh Valley. I look forward to working with the township staff to improve the township,” he said.
Budraitis serves with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department.
The lone Democrat in the race is Eric Yocum. He was formerly employed with the EPA and served with the township fire department.
Both candidates said they will actively campaign for the open positions.
Chairman Roger Unangst reported that the First Regional Compost Authority (FRCA) is changing the frequency of its meetings. The meetings will now be held quarterly instead of monthly.
East Allen Township is a member of FRCA, along with other municipalities in the county. FRCA disposes of yard waste for residents of the municipalities it supports. In East Allen Township, there is a permit fee required to be eligible for FRCA’s benefits.
