Irene A. (Woodring) Megargell-Hess, 99, formerly of Northampton and of the Devon House, Allentown, died Feb. 24, 2017, in Lehigh Valley Hospice Inpatient Unit, Allentown. She was the wife of the late George M. Megargell and the late Kervin R. Hess.
Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late Walter W. and Bertha (Traugher) Woodring.
She was a trimmer for the former Cross County Clothes-Botany 500 Group, Northampton, for more than 28 years until she retired in 1982.
She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Seemsville.
She was, for more than 50 years, a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Rose Croix Chapter, Northampton.
She is survived by a daughter, Marlene M. and her husband Carl B. Smith of Fogelsville; a granddaughter, Sheri Ference and her fiance Daniel Masenheimer of New Tripoli; two stepdaughters, Nancy and her husband Ron Nyce of Bath; Terry Rissmiller of Northampton; and Susan and her husband Greg Sipos, also of Northampton, six stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, LaRue Flammer of Bath and Diane and her husband Jim Batchelor, also of Bath; nieces; and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Carl B. Smith Jr.; five sisters, Elaine, Shirley Ruch, Loretta Barthol, Mae Creyer and Mildred Yelles; and three brothers Gerald, Roy and Walter.
