S. Whitehall driver charged; pedestrian dies 5 days later

District Attorney Jim Martin has announced a South Whitehall man was charged in connection with an incident in which he allegedly struck a pedestrian and immediately left the scene.

Joshua Stockman, 35, of 2112 Huckleberry Road, South Whitehall Township, was charged Feb. 23 with one count each of aggravated assault by vehicle and having an accident involving death or personal injury - serious bodily injury, both third degree felonies.

Stockman was arraigned at Central Booking with bail set at $50,000/10 percent.

Martin said that at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21, Stockman was allegedly driving northbound at a high rate of speed in the 400 block of N. Sixth St., Allentown, when he struck a pedestrian walking across the street.

Stockman allegedly drove around the victim, fled the scene and abandoned his vehicle a half block from the site of the crash and continued fleeing on foot.

On Feb. 28, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said the pedestrian who had been identified as Ruby Marrero, 32, of 402 N. 6th St., Allentown was pronounced dead 7:21 a.m. that day in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Her cause of death was due to multiple blunt force injuries, due to a pedestrian/motor vehicle accident and her manner of death was ruled accident.
