Two proposed developments - one for 67 single-family homes at Willowbrook Golf Course and another for a 12-unit apartment project at the long-vacant Central School on Main Street - will be before Northampton Borough Planning Commission at its March 8 public meeting.
Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst emphasized both projects will be presented for “sketch plan review.” No action will be taken by the commission.
Land Trust Properties seeks to develop the east side of Howertown Road, between East Fourth Street and Greenview Drive. The property is in an R-1 zoning district.
“This plan is presented for sketch plan review. Land Trust Properties would like to develop these parcels into 67 single-family homes,” Brobst reported.
The property presently has a golf course on the site.
The second proposed project is a redeveloping of the former Central School into a 12-unit apartment building. The two-story brick structure was the borough’s first high school. It has had several uses since then, including a recreation center.
Tom Kishbaugh, of Bath, will present a sketch plan for converting the 1503 Main St. building into apartments. Previous plans by a developer never materialized. The property is located in a C-1 commercial zoning district. The building is vacant.
Councilman Ed Pany stressed that the borough should be cooperative in having these proposed projects move forward, saying he remembers when the vacant hotel at 21st and Main streets was close to being demolished. It is now a fine-dining Italian restaurant, Assante Ristorante Italiano.
