Hornet swimmers sweep Parkland for EPC titles
Emmaus came out on top on both sides of its annual rivalry swim meet against Parkland.
The Hornet boys team won just three individual events and a relay, but Emmaus’ depth helped overcome a strong Trojan effort 98-88.
Emmaus girls took six individual events and two of three relays to hold off a deep Parkland girls team 100-86.
The Hornets finish 11-0 and both the boys and girls team secured Eastern Pennsylvania Conference titles in their final dual meet of the season. Parkland boys and girls finish 10-1 in league meets.
Emmaus’ Chelsea Gravereaux won all four of her swims, taking first place in the 200 freestyle and butterfly, while helping the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay to wins. Reilly King and Abby Heilenman joined Gravereaux on both winning relays, while Marissa Decker completed the 200 free relay foursome and Katie Champagne was part of the 400 free relay.
Champagne also won the individual medley and backstroke. Heilenman won the 50 freestyle and King took first place in the 500 freestyle.
Katherine Gottwald (diving) and Megan Sicinski (breaststroke) won individual events for the Trojans. Sicinski was also part of the winning medley relay team with teammates Abigail Sheridan, Megan Sicinski, Courtney Sicinski and Grace Kennedy.
Parkland’s Matthew Ceh was the only swimmer to win all four of his events in the boys meet.
Ceh took first place in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle while also helping the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams to victories.
Mathew Engler was part of both winning relays while taking first place in the 100 butterfly. Hyunbin Kim swam on both winning relays with Adam Kucharczuk filling the fourth spot on the 200 free relay and Charles Villano completing the 400 freestyle foursome.
James Connolly won a paid of individual events, taking first place in 500 freestyle and breaststroke. John Hansell finished first in diving.
Emmaus’ Ethan Carr won two individual events (IM, backstroke) and was part of the winning medley relay team along with teammates Cooper Kocon, Ricky Thomas and Nathan Luey.
The Hornets Connor DeJohn won the 200 freestyle relay.
The swimmers will move on to the District 11 Class 3A Championships with diving scheduled for Feb. 25 at Emmaus and the swimming events taking place March 3-4 at Parkland.
