School board approves commencement at Stabler
Northampton Area High School’s Class of 2017 graduation ceremony again will be held at Stabler Arena, Lehigh University, Bethlehem.
The Northampton Area School District Board of Education voted unanimously 9-0 at its Jan. 23 meeting to approve an agreement with Lehigh University to rent Stabler for $8,238.40, plus expenses.
Graduation is set for 4 p.m. June 3.
In other business at the Jan. 23 meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve:
Jessica Finlayson, assistant boys volleyball coach, at $2,024;
Ashley Chell, long-term substitute English teacher, Northampton Area High School, Jan. 23 through the 2016-17 school year, at $253.83 per diem;
Emily Marley, short-term substitute mathematics teacher, Northampton Area Middle School, March 8 through the 2016-17 school year, at $125 per day, with no benefits;
Professional status and tenure for Breann Williams, George Wolf Elementary School, who has received six satisfactory evaluations, with professional status and tenure retroactive to Dec. 20, 2016;
Half-year medical sabbatical for Ann Savkova, English teacher, Northampton Area High School, effective second semester of the 2016-17 school year;
Linda Deurer, Melissa Davis, Leigh Zakutansky, Jason Winchenbach; four volunteers, Mark Zakutansky, Richard Silvius, Lisa Titman and Jeanine Braren-Wuchter; and 36 students to ski at Okemo Mountain Resort, Ludlow, Vt., Feb. 3-5, at no cost to NASD;
James Sansone and two students, Gavyn Frankenfield and Nicholas Orlando, to attend the PMEA District 10 Band Festival, Parkland High School, Feb. 9-11, for the students, and Feb. 9, for Sansone, at $440, included in the 2016-17 music and curriculum budgets;
Tara Mrazik, Maryann Miller, Ann Harrington, Allison Fiorini, Leigh Zakutansky, Neali Feimster, Lauren Sniscak, Jaclyn Grejda, Matthew Greenplate, John Blick, Andrew Peartree, Ryan Brobst and 172 DECA students to attend the Pennsylvania DECA State Conference, Feb. 22-24, Hershey, at $13,709, included in the 2016-17 high school and curriculum budgets;
April Krempasky, Courtney Schnyderite and Theresa Wenck to accompany approximately 52 German Club students on a Washington, D.C., field trip, April 21, at $300, included in the 2016-17 high school budget;
Silke Keeler, NASD network specialist, to attend the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo & Conference, Hershey, Feb. 13 and 14, at $325; and
Jeanette Gilliland to attend the 2017 Education Congress, Harrisburg, March 29 and 30, at $498.
