Borough man dies in crash

A Northampton man died Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle accident in the borough.

According to Northampton Borough Police Chief Ron Morey, a resident in the area of the 2300 block of Northampton Avenue called 911 to report hearing a crash at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek identified the man as Jennings Baumer, 41. He resided near the scene of the accident.

According to Morey, an SUV, driven by Baumer, was traveling in a dead-end alley to the rear of the 2300 block of Dewey Avenue, left the roadway and continued down a grass embankment. The vehicle then hit a fence and shed in the back yard of a Northampton Avenue property and caught fire.

Lysek said Baumer’s death, ruled accidental, was caused by carbon monoxide toxicity.

An investigation is continuing, Morey said.
