Charles J. Durner Jr.

Charles J. Durner Jr., 85, former Chief of Police for Salisbury Township, died peacefully at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Jan. 20, 2017. He was the husband of Valentine (Hawk) Durner. They would have celebrated 20 years of marriage July 11. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Marie E. (Baumgarten) and Charles W. Durner.

He was honorably discharged from the United States Marines attaining the rank of sergeant.

Along with being the former chief of police, he was a constable for Salisbury Township. He had a passion for his profession in law enforcement due to the incredibly solid relationships he forged with his co-workers, friends and community.

His interests included hunting, gardening, racing pigeons and raising white shepherds.

He held memberships in the Pennsylvania Chiefs Association and Fraternal Order of Police.

He is survived by his wife; children, Jay and his wife Chris; daughter, Robin Stevens, Bonnie Jurta and her loved one, Alan, Darien and Debbie Conrad, Scott Conrad; grandchildren, Jennifer, John and his wife Brittany, Taylor Conrad and Briana Jurta; great-granddaughter, Annika Szoke; sister, Marjorie Hoffman. He was predeceased by a sister Elaine Gallagher.

A viewing will be held in the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, Inc., 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown, 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 followed by a second viewing 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26. His service will begin 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26 and conclude at St. Mark’s Cemetery, Allentown.
