A Catasauqua man who ran into Innovative Arts Academy Charter School Jan. 17 holding a screwdriver has now been charged.
Catasauqua police said Rafael J. Maldonado, 37, of 212 Second St., had also been involved in an assault on a woman in the borough last month.
In the Jan. 17 incident, police said officers were dispatched to the charter school, 330 Howertown Road, at 8 a.m. for a report of a man, brandishing a screwdriver, who had entered the building without authorization.
Borough Police Chief Douglas Kish told The Press last week Maldonado had been under the influence of cocaine and that Maldonado had admitted to authorities on the scene he was high. Police said Maldonado was shirtless and was wearing pajama pants and socks.
In an updated report, Kish said Maldonado has been charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
The updated report also said, in a separate incident, borough police had been dispatched 4:42 p.m. Dec. 8 to the senior apartment complex at 118 Bridge St., where Maldonado had allegedly grabbed and fought with a 60-year-old woman.
Maldonado was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in that incident.
Maldonado admitted to acting out of control and being on a combination of drugs, the release further said.
He was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem.
The release noted the woman was not injured in the attack.
Borough police were assisted by North Catasauqua and Coplay borough police departments and Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem.
