Allen board elects new chair
Allen Township Board of Supervisors, at its Jan. 3 reorganization meeting, shuffled the deck regarding three key township positions - appointing a new board chairman, fire chief and engineer - effective immediately.
Supervisor Larry Oberly was elected chairman of the five-member board of supervisors, replacing Supervisor Bruce Frack, who retains his elective post. Serving as trustee of Atlas Cement Company Memorial Museum in Northampton, Oberly also is active with Northampton Area Historical Society.
Oberly, a retired Nazareth Area High School social studies teacher and department head, is serving his first elective office as supervisor. He is active with the township fire company and represents the township in various posts, including the regional compost group.
Supervisor Dale Hassler was retained as the board’s vice chairman.
Hassler was named as the township’s new fire chief. He is active with the township’s volunteer fire company and at one time served as fire chief. Hassler replaces Nick Lalik as chief.
Barry Isett, of Barry Isett & Associates Inc., was named township engineer, replacing longtime Hanover Engineering. Hanover Engineering will finish projects that had been assigned but remain uncompleted at the start of 2017.
The supervisors appointed township Manager Ilene Eckert as township treasurer/secretary.
