The Rev. Francis Paul Straka
The Rev. Francis Paul Straka, 60, died Jan. 4, 2017, at his residence.
Born in Reading, he was a son of Frank Straka of Reading and the late Mary A. (Ohrin) Straka.
He attended Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish School and was a graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology from Allentown College (now DeSales University), Center Valley, and studied at Brisson Seminary. He earned a Master of Divinity in theology from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook.
He was ordained to the priesthood June 2, 1990, by the then Bishop of Allentown Diocese The Most Rev. Thomas J. Welsh at Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown.
He was a parochial vicar at Our Lady of Hungary Church, Northampton; St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, Hellertown; Sacred Heart Church, West Reading; and St. Ann Church, Emmaus. He was a pastor at Holy Ghost Church, Bethlehem. He was currently the pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Northampton.
He was the spiritual adviser for Saint Vincent de Paul Society of the Diocese of Allentown. He was a member of the board of directors of Holy Family Villa for Priests, Bethlehem. He was a life member of First Catholic Slovak Union Branch 175, Reading.
In addition to his father, he is survived by five siblings, Michael S. of Denver, Colo., Maryann and her husband William Bennethum of Spring Township, Gregory and his wife June, Joseph and his wife Julie and Catherine and her husband Timothy Jones, all of Exeter Township; and 13 nieces and nephews.
