Transition program on Jan. 24

Farm Link

PA Farm Link, in partnership with The Seed Farm, will offer a Farm Succession and Transition Program Jan. 24 at Lehigh County Agricultural Center, 4184 Dorney Park Road, South Whitehall.

Professionals in the agricultural industry will provide information to farm business owners who are looking to retire, scale back from farming or transition from a farm business to take on another adventure.

PA Farm Link, a non-profit dedicated to “Linking Farmers to the Future”, will provide information on various aspects of creating a Farm Business Succession/Transition plan.

Often farm families start to discuss passing the farm business to the next generation, but get “stuck” on how to proceed.

These workshops will help work through some of the myths and stumbling blocks of moving forward with a farm succession and transition plan.

Topics covered will include: Succession/Transition from a Legal Perspective; Goals & Needs of Farm Family Members; Financial Challenges of Succession Planning; and Challenges and Successes of Farm Succession.

Speakers will include: a Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit Ag Professional; Darlene Livingston, PA Farm Link, and Attorney Jody Leighty with Stock and Leader.

Speakers will answer questions and a breakout sessions will be held.

Certified International Farm Transition Network facilitators will be available to assist families in planning the next steps.

Participants will be encouraged to ask questions, and will be given a list of potential resources in the area to provide future assistance with a farm succession/transition plan.

Included in the workshop is a copy of: “Planning the Future of Your Farm” Pennsylvania Edition.

Registration is required by Jan. 17.

There is a small fee per person for registration.

Registration can be completed online at www.pafarmlink.org or through Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.com or by calling 1-717-705-2121.

Multiple attendees from the same business are encouraged to participate so all pertinent parties, especially multiple generations, can gather information.
