Northampton: Friendly Fifties will meet Jan. 9

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. Jan. 9 in the church’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave. Christina Acosta, from Senior Life, will speak.

If Northampton schools are delayed or closed, the meeting is canceled.

Registration for children’s winter classes at Northampton Area Public Library begins Jan. 9. Classes are for ages 10 months to fifth grade and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The library will hold a winter reading program for adults. Read books, magazines and audiobooks and enter each week for a chance to win a prize. Sign-ups are underway, and the first drawing is Jan. 9.

A workshop titled “Organizing Your Household Paper” will be held 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10. Local professional organizer Robin Stankowski will share her favorite organizing tips, techniques and products.

New at the library in 2017 is a crochet group, meeting every second Wednesday, beginning 6 p.m. Jan. 11. All skill levels are welcome to attend, and supplies are provided. If you’re brand new to the hobby, learn how to crochet with a staff member.

Teens, do you love the musical “Hamilton”? Join the library 1 p.m. Jan. 14, for Hamilton Smackdown - trivia, lip sync battle and more revolutionary fun!

The library will hold its second annual Harry Potter night for kids and teens 6 p.m. Feb. 2. Join the library for games, treats and magical spells as they celebrate Harry Potter!

Northampton AARP Chapter 3915 will meet Jan. 11 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave. Doors open noon.

Entertainment will be provided.

Those planning to attend are reminded to bring a baked good.

In case of bad weather and Northampton schools are closed, there will be no meeting.

Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1301 Newport Ave., is taking halupki orders. Orders must be placed by Feb. 4, and pickup will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 11 at the church.

Northampton Area Food Bank will be sponsoring a Stuff Your Purse designer purse bingo fundraiser Feb. 5.

Organizers are seeking sponsors - either individuals, families, organizations or businesses - to fund a designer purse or gift card.

Donations for the Chinese auction also are needed.
