Coplay: Two more Christmas tree pickups set
With the holidays over, the borough’s public works crew will be picking up discarded Christmas trees Jan. 6 and 13.
Residents should place the tree at the same place they put household refuse on collection day.
The trend of getting an artificial tree instead of a real tree continues, as evidenced by the smaller number of trees being tossed out after the holidays.

The recent Community Plaza dance fundraiser held at the American Club of Coplay pavilion was a sellout. The proceeds will go toward the continued development of the Second and Chestnut streets plaza.
The dance was sponsored by the borough’s planning commission and recreation board. Plans call for benches to be added at the site later this year. There is to be a surprise announcement planned, which is expected to “knock your socks off,” according to a borough resident.

Winter is in full mode. January is always the coldest month of the year. Snow can fall on any day or night, which brings out an announcement from the borough. Do not shovel or blow the snow from sidewalks to where fire hydrants are located; instead, help by clearing snow from the area where fire hydrants are, so in the event of a fire, the response by firefighters can be quicker.

Along with the falling snow, residents are advised not to have snow thrown or blown onto the streets from sidewalks.
The borough ordinance states residents have 24 hours to clear their sidewalks of snow once the storm passes.

It may seem odd the borough is already taking applications for pool manager and pavilion cleaner for the summer. The deadline is Feb. 24 to apply for the above positions. Are you interested in such a position? Stop by the borough office to inquire and fill out the paperwork.
March 17 is the deadline for anyone interested in a lifeguard position at the borough’s Parkway Pool. For the summer help with the public works department, a driver’s license is a requirement, and those wishing to apply must be at least 18 years old.
