Board accepts resignations of coaches
The girls volleyball coaches at Northampton Area High School (NAHS) have resigned.
The resignations of Morgan Litak, head girls volleyball coach, and Jason Winchenbach, assistant girls volleyball coach, both effective Dec. 12, 2016, were accepted with a 9-0 vote by the Northampton Area School District (NASD) Board of Education at the Dec. 19, 2016, meeting.
School directors also voted 9-0 at the meeting to:
• Accept the resignations of Wendy Clemons, reading specialist, for retirement, effective June 2; James Farber, security officer, for retirement, effective Dec. 23, 2016; Kendell Milia, English teacher, effective Jan. 17; and James Knittle, hall monitor, for retirement, effective Nov. 29, 2016;
• Approve the hiring of Kaitlynn Wiltraut, mathematics teacher, Northampton Area Middle School (NAMS), effective Jan. 18, at $47,720, prorated, with benefits; Karissa Hantz, long-term substitute special education teacher, Siegfried Elementary School, Jan. 3 through the 2016-17 school year, at $253.83 per diem, with benefits; Gina VanLuvance, short-term substitute kindergarten teacher, Franklin Elementary School, Jan. 3-March 23, at $125 per day, no benefits; April Ziegler, short-term substitute social studies teacher, NAMS, Jan. 27-April 20, at $125 per day, no benefits; Stephanie Chlebove, short-term substitute second-grade elementary teacher, Moore Elementary School, Jan. 3-May 8, at $150 per day, no benefits; Nicole Fox, short-term substitute kindergarten teacher, Lehigh Elementary School, at $125 per day, retroactive to Sept. 19, 2016, no benefits; Mark Keeler, security officer, Jan. 3, at $19.53 per hour, no benefits; and Philip Oels, third-shift custodian, NAMS, effective Dec. 20, 2016, at $18.83 per hour, with benefits;
• Approve professional status and tenure for the following teachers who have received six satisfactory evaluations: NAHS - Tresa Bartosh, Seth Lisa, Genevieve Wilde and Leigh Zakutansky; NAMS - Christopher Erdo and Erik Litsch; Lehigh Elementary School - Katie Biechy; and George Wolf Elementary School - Tina Ventresca;
• Approve leave of absences for James Knittle, paid, Nov. 8, 2016, unpaid, no insurance, Nov. 9-29, 2016; Rachel Knepp, paid, childbearing, March 8-April 20, unpaid, with insurance, April 21 through the 2016-17 school year; Kathleen Nota, unpaid, Dec. 12, 2016, to a date to be determined not to extend past March 15, with insurance; Stephanie Heffelfinger, paid, childbearing, Jan. 3-19, unpaid, child rearing, Jan. 19-April 19, no insurance, unpaid, child rearing, April 19-May 8; and Catherine DiOdoardo, paid, childbearing, Jan. 3-April 10, unpaid, child rearing, April 10 through the 2016-17 school year, with insurance;
• Approve the voluntary transfers of Helene Braren from Tuesday-Saturday custodian to Monday-Friday, middle-shift custodian, Moore Elementary School, effective retroactive to Dec. 5, 2016, with no change in salary; and Alyssa Silfies from third-shift custodian, NAMS, to Tuesday-Saturday custodian, Moore Elementary School, effective retroactive to Dec. 6, 2016, with no change in salary;
• Approve a visit by Linda Deurer, Melissa Davis, Leigh Zakutansky and Jason Winchenbach to Ludlow, Vt., with 36 students to ski at Okemo Mountain Resort, Feb. 3-5, at no cost to district; Lauren Ezzell, Kevin Ezzell, Deborah Hunter and Jacqueline Hanson to accompany NAHS students to Quebec City, Canada, June 15-18, at no cost to the district; and attendance of John Bendekovits and Jamie Horvath at Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo & Conference, Hershey, Feb. 13 and 14, at a cost of $817.16, included in the 2016-17 curriculum budget;
• Approve the 2016-17 community education program spring classes and roster of instructors with stipends; and
• Appoint Terry A. Leh as the primary TCC voting delegate and Matthew Sawarynski as the alternate TCC voting delegate for NASD during the 2017 calendar year.
