NHS cheerleaders 3rd in EPC

Northampton High School’s varsity cheerleaders competed at the East Penn Conference Cheerleading Championships on Dec. 7 at Easton Area Middle School.

Although only the top two squads were awarded, the Konkrete Kids placed third out of 13 squads.

“We were really surprised and really excited,” said Northampton cheerleading captain, Madison Heffelfinger. “We found out the next day.”

The Konkrete Kids’ routine begins with a cheer, followed by a jump and tumble sequence, stunts, a dance, and ends with a pyramid.

“I knew right after, we did really, really well,” Heffelfinger said. “Everything usually hits. The only time we struggle sometimes is with the single stunts, but we have a really, really good cheer, and it’s a good start to the routine. It gets everyone excited to hit the rest of the routine.”

Music, a mix of older and current songs, is used throughout the routine except for the cheer portion.

Competition season began in November for the KKids when they had two competitions prior to the EPC competition.

“[This year] I think we started getting each others’ spirits up more, and created more of a family. It’s easier to work together,” said Heffelfinger.

The KKids will compete in the District 11 competition in January.

“I think it’s going to be more about telling each other we can do it,” Heffelfinger said. “We’ve been through so many bumps in the road [with injuries], what will we look like when we have everyone? We should all be back by then.”

Easton placed first and Pleasant Valley was second.

Northampton cheerleaders took third in the recent EPC meet and first at the Rover Rumble.
