Students to take Science Olympiad trip

The Whitehall-Coplay School Board approved a field trip request at its meeting Monday.

The field trip approval gives permission for Justin Boandl, a high school science teacher, to have the Whitehall High School Science Olympiad team travel and compete in a Science Olympiad competition at Juniata College, Huntingdon.

Students would leave April 21, 2017, and return home after the competition April 22.

In other business, Dr. Barbara Chomik, Whitehall-Coplay School District’s director of curriculum and instruction, said the district is looking for applicants for its Zephyr Graduates of Distinction program.

In order to qualify, the nominee must be a graduate of Whitehall High School at least 10 years prior, have excelled in their career or made an outstanding contribution to society.

Applications for the Zephyr Graduates of Distinction program are available at both the Whitehall Township and Coplay public libraries and the district office on the WCSD campus as well as on the district’s website, whitehallcoplay.org.

In other matters, the Whitehall High School Chorale performed for the board, singing “O Holy Night” and “Jingle Bells.”
