Allen Township Board of Supervisors at the Dec. 8 meeting adopted a $1,790,001 budget for 2017, supported by a 5-mill real estate tax levy, which has not risen since 2005 when property taxes went up a scant one-half mill.
2017 marks the 12th year homeowners, along with commercial and industrial property owners, have not experienced a hike in real estate taxes.
The five supervisors, on voting unanimously for the budget, did not comment on the budget they approved.
The township’s ability to not have to increase property taxes for more than a decade can be credited to both new housing development and not having its own police department, a costly matter for other municipalities that have such a staff and vehicles.
The plan includes road equipment purchases and road paving.
Real estate tax receipts are estimated at $727,300, and earned income taxes are projected to yield $670,000. An additional $80,000 in real estate transfer taxes, along with $40,000 from the local services tax, is expected.
Under administrative, the salary for the township manager, held by Ilene Eckhart, is $93,000, up from $90,000 this year.
Professional legal services are budgeted at $70,000.
Northampton Area Public Library will receive $5,000, an amount unchanged from 2016.
There is $3,000 earmarked for the youth association.
The wastewater (sewer) fund is budgeted at $401,150 in revenue and projects $270,700 in expenditures.
