Local resident offers to pay for speed limit signs

During the public comment period at the end of the Nov. 22 Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Ed Ziegler reminded supervisors he had asked about speed limit signs with a lower speed between Berlinsville and Walnutport. Supervisors said it was not in this year’s budget and would have to wait until money was available.

At that point, Ziegler asked if the township would install them if he bought the signs.

Supervisors said the township would install them.

The signs cost $174 and will meet state standards. Ziegler said he understands the standards.

In other news, the final highway occupancy plans have been submitted for the Cherryville intersection. Hanover Engineering has been named to the zoning officer position.

The short-term rental ordinance has been tabled. Chairman Darryl Snover believes there is some unintentional overreach included. It covers places such as hotels and bed and breakfasts.

Lehigh Valley Planning Commission reviewed the right-of-way ordinance and said, in its opinion, its should be kept separate and not part of zoning.

The municipal authority wants to sell the old well house property. It is 1.31 acres, has a stream and was being offered to the township. Both Snover and Supervisor Keith Hantz said it is not big enough for any practical use.

Northwoods major subdivision received approval of an extension until March 31, 2017. Snover asked if there had been any action before the request was approved.

The Walmart land development plan also received approval until March 31. Solicitor David Backenstoe asked if there were things going on. Supervisor Cindy Miller said a submission has been made and also one to Walnutport Water Authority. A planning commission meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 12.
