Girls have high hopes
Northampton High School’s girls’ basketball team is hoping to be at its best at the end of the season but will have to play its best to get to a league and district final.
With most of its players returning from last season and a good run this past summer, making it to the SportsFest final against Parkland, the Konkrete Kids are already playing better basketball after two scrimmages and will compete in the Owen J. Roberts tournament this weekend.
Aja Blount and Devon Saul are Northampton’s captains.
“Different this year is that we have Jade [Rindock] back healthy. Jenna Rogers, who’s in tenth grade, is a probable starter who is stepping up,” said Northampton coach Jeff Jacksits. “Aja and Victoria [Keenan] should be able to maintain and improve.”
Saul’s starting spot at guard may fluctuate, depending on whether the opposing team has a taller or smaller line-up.
Brielle Rigo, Camryn Devitt, Drew Filchner, Janessa Meixner, Autumn Van Horn, Emily Weindel, Lauren Yeaw, Gabby Demchak, and Myranda Yost round out the KKids roster.
“[Our expectations] are the same: a quest for both leagues and districts. I don’t think that should be a problem,” Jacksits said.
What could cause some concern is Easton, Nazareth, and Bethlehem Catholic.
“Easton, for sure, and Nazareth. They’re our two biggest obstacles, along with Bethlehem Catholic,” said Jacksits. “It’s a tough league we’re in.”
First on the regular season schedule for the Konkrete Kids will be a road trip to East Stroudsburg North on Dec. 13, followed by a home game against Emmaus on Dec. 16.
“We’re looking for good things, and we’re excited,” Jacksits said. “We had a good summer, and hopefully, we’re playing our best basketball at the end of the year.”
