Officer Peterson Myrthil was sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Robert Hawke preceding the Oct. 25 Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

Chief Scott Fogel gave some background about the new officer before the ceremony.

Myrthil was born in Haiti and came to the United States at age 15 with his mother.

He learned English in Haiti.

Myrthil earned an associate degree in biology and later told his mother he was not interested in becoming a doctor. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Myrthil joined the National Guard and served in Qatar.

He became a naturalized citizen and completed a course at Allentown Police Academy. His application with Lehigh Township followed.

Family members attended the ceremony and were invited to tour police headquarters.
