LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Eagle Point work is completed

Major road upgrades at Eagle Point - Routes 145 and 329 in Whitehall Township - have been completed on schedule.

Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. has called this stretch one of the busiest in both the township and the Lehigh Valley. The construction project has now made it safer and smoother for motorists.

An average of 19,882 vehicles travel on Route 145 daily; 8,662 vehicles, including a large number of trucks, utilize Route 329.

Road-Con Inc., of West Chester, Chester County, was the contractor for the $1.6 million project.

Work at the intersection included extending the northbound and southbound left turn lanes from Route 145 to Route 329 and adding right turn lanes on Route 145. A fresh coat of macadam also was completed.

Traffic signal poles were upgraded with LED signal lights.

New curb ramps now comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

New signage and pavement markings and road drainage improvements also were completed.

Construction signage was removed just before the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Hozza, who added “just a few minor details are being addressed.”

Unlike major road construction projects in the region, which often don’t meet their targeted completion deadlines, the project at Eagle Point began in March and reached its projected finish this month.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s project even suspended work around holiday weekends and township events, such as the Cement Belt Fair and Egypt’s Curt Simmons Day, both in June.
