Winfield “Wiffy” Held

Winfield “Wiffy” E. Held, 101, of Emmaus, formerly of Allentown, died Nov. 11, 2016, at Cedarbrook, Allentown. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy A. (Quier) Held in 1997. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Wilbur C. and Argentina (Pizzolato) Held.

He was a fireman and an engineer for Norfolk Southern Corp., the former Reading Railroad, for 34 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Allentown and a member of the senior choir for 22 years. He was a catcher for the church softball league for six years as well as playing independent baseball with various teams in the Lehigh Valley for 25 years.

He is survived by sons, Carl W. “Corky” and his wife, Bonnie, of Northampton, Robin D. and his wife Linda, of Allentown, Terry L., of Emmaus; sister, Florence Ficili, of Gloversville, N.Y.; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Bonnie Szczepanski, granddaughter, Tina Szczepanski and brothers, Wilbur C. Jr., Walter T. and Robert J.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, 201 E. Juniata St., Allentown, 18103.

Services will take place 10:30 a.m. Nov. 18 in the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, Inc., 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown. A viewing for family and friends will be held 7 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 17 and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 18 in the funeral home. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park.
