Lehigh Township: Lehigh Twp. Rails to Trails group installs new signs
If you are heading out for a brisk fall walk or bike ride, look for the informative signs Lehigh Township Rails to Trails recently installed along the Delaware and Lehigh rail trails.
They can be found along the trail between Slatington and the Cove Road trailheads. One has been placed by the refurbished concrete phone booth, and the other is near the remains of the three-mile dam. Both signs use photos and text to tell some local history relating to the railroads and canal that had run along the river.
Have you ever seen any other booths along former railroad beds? Learn about the use of the phone booths.
The three-mile dam, like many others that once spanned the Lehigh River, had more than one purpose. Do you know what they were?
The Lehigh Township Rails to Trails group is always looking for people who enjoy the outdoors to join them and participate in activities. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Lehigh Township Municipal Building.
For additional information, visit the group’s Facebook page or call 610-767-0676.

Hundreds of nativities of all styles, materials, origins and sizes will be on display for families, friends and neighbors to view at Hope Lutheran Church’s 17th annual open house nativity display. The church, 4131 Lehigh Drive, Cherryville, invites everyone to the display 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 26 and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 27.
Admission is free, and refreshments and entertainment will be provided.
Children also are encouraged to take in the sights and make a craft in the children’s nativity center.
People in the community willing to share nativities for the event are welcome to do so. Those who would like to offer a nativity for the weekend can bring it to the church 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 25 for the display and plan to retrieve it after 4 p.m. Nov. 27.
This display has grown in size and popularity each year since the event’s creation in 1999. It is a wonderful way to mark the beginning of Advent and spend time with friends, family and members of the community.
For more information about this display, call the church office at 610-767-7203.
