Big winner in borough!

Coplay News Agency can be dubbed “Lottery Central” after a borough resident struck it rich with a $1 million prize on a new $20 scratch-off ticket - which made its debut Oct. 31 - giving the Second and Coplay streets shop a bit of the publicity.

It isn’t the first time someone has hit big playing the lottery at Coplay News Agency. On a wall behind the counter is a large sign showing the business sold a $450,013 winning ticket to another borough man just a few months ago.

This new winner, as well as the previous one, has declined having his name made public.

“I respect his request. His identity will not be given out,” store owner Kenneth Mack said.

The $20 scratch-off ticket, called “Snow Bank,” has five top prizes. The borough resident’s win of one of the prizes has been confirmed by Pennsylvania Lottery Commission.

Mack said the borough resident asked store employee Jeff Hantz to select the scratch-off ticket from the roll of “Snow Bank” tickets. The person immediately began scratching off the numbers and symbols on the ticket, revealing the $1 million prize.

“I was shocked. My hands were shaking,” Mack said on finding the ticket was, in fact, a winner.

The recipient will receive a check in three to six weeks, Mack said.

Mack receives $5,000 for selling the winning lottery ticket at his store.

Mack’s store does a brisk business with lottery tickets, daily numbers and scratch-offs. The walls all around the store are decorated with winning tickets and the amounts won, many in the hundreds and thousands of dollars.

“These on the wall are just the past two months,” Mack mentioned, then showing a huge box filled with past winning tickets.

“It’s always nice when someone locally hits,” Mack said. “He is a regular customer.”
