Northampton’s football team snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 21-0 victory over Upper Merion last Friday night.
The Kids got a pair of rushing TD’s from quarterback Colin Schucker and another rushing score from Jared Stauffer to propel them to their first win in 2016.
The contingency contest with Upper Merion (3-8) gave the Kids (1-10) a boost after a long season of difficult results.
“It was great for our players to get a win and to see them excited,” said Kids head coach Mark Scisly. “The players have overcome a lot of adversity and injuries and should be given a lot of credit for staying together as a team and finding a way to get a win.
“It’s a great confidence builder and it was exciting to hear them chanting “Catty” after the game, which means they are already thinking about the big game coming up.”
The win over Upper Merion saw two teams play a balanced game on the stat sheet, as Northampton outgained their foes 186-to-126 in total yards.
Schucker led the way with 74 yards passing and 47 through the air, scoring on runs of 15 and 35 yards, with the latter one coming in the third quarter to give Northampton a 21-0 lead.
It’s the similar path that the Kids went through last season before their annual Thanksgiving Day game with Catty, as they picked up a contingency win last year before knocking off their rivals on Turkey day.
“It is a big confidence builder and hopefully will go a long way to helping us get a win,” said Scisly of what last week’s win does for the team moving forward. “We gave them a few days off, but we are going to practice at least three times a week to stay sharp and prepare for the game.”
