NAA: Pee Wee, JV win
Northampton Athletic Association played North Parkland on Sunday.
Pee Wee
Kholer Strohl ran behind solid blocking from Bubba Mashraky, Dlyan Perl and Tymir Williams for seven yards to score Northampton’s first touchdown. The PAT attempt failed when the pass from Strohl to Richardson sailed high in the strong wind.
On the ensuing kickoff Cazhiere Richardson recovered a fumble at the North Parkland 43-yard line. Then on the first play from scrimmage Richardson scampered 43 yards for the second touchdown and followed it up with a three-yard run for the PAT.
Once again on the kickoff Richardson recovered the ball giving the Kids possession at the North Parkland 40-yard line. The Buffalos then stopped Northampton on 4h-and-one to end the drive. The score at the half was 13-0.
In the second half, after some strong runs by Billy Stuhldreher and Kolher Strohl, the Kids had a 1st-and-goal from the Buffalo’s 2-yard line. Devlin Chevere scored the touchdown on the next play followed by a pass from Strohl to Richardson to convert the PAT. North Parkland scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter but was denied on the PAT attempt bringing the final score to 20-6.
Turnovers were recorded by Chevere with two fumble recoveries and an interception and by Adryan High-Salazar with a fumble recovery. Northampton finished the regular season at 6-2 and will be the number-three seed in the playoffs.
They will again face North Parkland in the opening round of the playoffs on Saturday Oct. 29.
JV
The Kids NAA-JV (7-1) won 19-6 against North Parkland Buffalo’s (5-3) and clinched a first round playoff bye taking the number-two seed overall.
This was the first regular season meeting with the Buffalo’s since the NAA joined the American Conference in 2015 but was a rematch of last years Pee Wee semifinal championship game in which the Kids Also won 7-6 to advance to the Pee Wee championship.
The Kids took a 19-0 lead late into the third quarter as the result of a solid performance from both offense and defense before giving up their first points of the game on a run up the middle. The PAT Kick attempt failed.
The defense put a lot of pressure on the QB and made a lot of big hits throughout the game.
Special teams were spot-on all game and recovered an onside kick to start the second half and led to the third TD of the game by the Kids on the ensuing drive.
The offense controlled the ball much of the game by securing long drives leading to scores in each of the first three quarters of the game. The offense pounded the run game in the windy conditions at Orefield. Touchdowns were provided by Caden Markulics (28 yds), AJ Slivka (1 yd) and Xavion Smith (5 yds). This could not have been done without the strong blocking of the offensive line opening up huge holes all day long. Caden Markulics thanked his offensive line for doing a great job all day during the team’s postgame breakdown. This was a total team effort and big win for the Kids.
The Kids will play in two weeks against one of the winners form Lower Mac. vs. North Parkland or Emmaus vs. Bethlehem Raiders.
