At the Sept. 12 meeting of the Lehigh Township Planning Commission, Dollar General presented a sketch plan for a store at Blue Mountain and West Mountain View drives. It was submitted by Capital Growth Development and is in resort commercial and neighborhood commercial zones. The plan was presented by Brian Pardoe.
Dollar General is permitted in the resort commercial zone, but a variance is needed for parking. The building would be divided between 30 percent in the neighborhood commercial zone and 70 percent in the resort commercial zone.
Planner Cindy Miller asked why they would want to be in that area because the traffic count is low.
The parking variance is needed in writing, so it can go to the zoning board.
Traffic will be discharged to Mountain View Drive.
Engineer Phil Malitsch said he will need a new map with more exactness. He said the developer has a 10.2-acre lot and asked if the township would want the remainder since the store is planned for only two acres. Planners were asked about the possibility of a zoning change, and Chairman David Shulman said it would be difficult.
