Take Back Day set for Oct. 22
The 12th National Take Back Day drug collection event has been scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 22. Lehigh County residents can take expired and unused prescription and over-the-counter medications to police departments and other locations at 11 sites in Lehigh County.
County residents can dispose of capsules, pills, including pet medications and liquids. Syringes or sharps will not be accepted.
Residents who dispose of medications will remain anonymous, and no questions will be asked.
The event is coordinated by Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, area police departments, Allentown Health Bureau, Pennsylvania State Police and U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration.
Since the first Take Back Day in 2010, 10,104 pounds of medications have been collected in the county. In addition, a total of 9,969 pounds of medications have been collected from the permanent medication collection boxes that have been installed in 12 police departments; Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township; Lehigh Valley Hospital, 17th and Chew streets in Allentown; Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg, Bethlehem; and Air Products & Chemicals Inc. In all, 20,073 pounds of drugs have been collected.
Medications will be collected at the following locations Oct. 22:

• Giant supermarket, 3015 W. Emmaus Ave., Allentown
• Redners Market, 1201 Airport Road, Allentown
• South Whitehall Township Police Department, 4444 Walbert Ave.
• Fountain Hill Police Department, 941 Long St.
• Upper Macungie Township Police Department, 37 Grim Road
• Westgate Mall, main entrance, 2285 Schoenersville Road, Bethlehem
• Catasauqua Police Department, 118 Bridge St.
• Upper Saucon Township Police Department, 5500 Camp Meeting Road
• Pennsylvania State Police, Troop M, Camp Olympic, 3120 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Emmaus
• Emmaus Police Department, 400 W. Jubilee St.
Police departments with year-round collection boxes are Catasauqua, 118 Bridge St.; Allentown, 1005 W. Hamilton St. substation; Bethlehem, 10 E. Church St.; Emmaus, 400 Jubilee St.; Slatington, 125 S. Walnut St.; Upper Saucon Township, 5500 Camp Meeting Road; South Whitehall Township, 4444 Walbert Ave.; Upper Macungie Township, 37 Grim Road; Whitehall Township, 3731 Lehigh St.; Salisbury Township, 3000 S. Pike Ave.; Coplay, 98 S. Fourth St. (lobby of the borough building); and Coopersburg, 5 N. Main St.
