Gallagher takes eighth
Northampton High School senior, Lyndsey Gallagher, medaled in the girls’ race of the East Penn Conference Cross Country Championships on Tuesday afternoon at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course, placing eighth with a time of 20:29.63.
The top 12 finishers received medals.
Stroudsburg’s girls captured a 1-2-3 finish when Liberty’s Raisa Kochmaruk, who had led the entire race, slowed and stumbled as she approached the finish line and could not complete the race.
Allana Powlette was the overall winner with a time of 19:22.47, followed by Amy Conboy, and Michelle Joyce.
Isaac N’Jenga, also a Northampton senior, just missed medaling in the boys’ race, placing 13th with a time of 17:57.79.
“I did feel good today, and we were in box 2, right in the middle, straight out,” N’Jenga said. “I tried to go out more conservative and then pick it up because of the hills. Actually, they were easier than I thought, and I had a lot of energy.”
That’s where N’Jenga was able to pick off a few runners.
“A lot of them were slowing down, but then the pace was closing in, so it got harder,” he said. “I feel I did well. I wanted 12th place to medal, but I feel good.”
Vince Gallagher placed 25th with a time of 18:29.73, and Isaiah Tyler placed 30th in 18:40.38, both for the Konkrete Kids.
Pleasant Valley’s Seth Slavin was the winner of the boys’ race with a time of 16:27.94.
In boys’ team results, Parkland took first place with 32 points, followed by Easton with 74 points. Northampton finished eighth with 221 points.
In girls’ team results, Stroudsburg took first place with 31 points, followed by Easton with 96 points. Northampton finished 11th with 242 points.
