Angle is fourth at EPC
Northampton’s girls’ tennis team competed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Tennis Tournament last week at Freedom High School. Emma Angle placed fourth at number one singles.
Angle won her first match against Pleasant Valley and her second match against Emmaus Elise VanOrmer. Angle then lost her third match against Bethlehem Catholic’s Brenna Magliochetti, moving on to the consolation match, which was won by Freedom’s Natalie Sinai.
Northampton coach Kim Davis was thrilled with Angle’s play against Magliochetti, while Angle felt proud of her match against VanOrmer.
“[VanOrmer] is a hard hitter, but she’s flat so if she mis-hits a little, it goes out,” Angle said. “I know her, and anyway, I had to redeem myself from districts.”
Northampton’s Mary Angle won her first match against Liberty and lost her second match against Freedom at number two singles.
“The Liberty match was closer than the score showed, and the points were longer,” said Mary Angle. “I thought I was doing good [against Freedom’s Kaitlyn Swint] because I beat her in districts the day before, but I think she had more confidence, and she was good at the net.”
Northampton’s Grace Lewis won her first match against Emmaus and lost her match against Freedom at three singles.
At two doubles, Caleigh Savage and Sydney Schmall lost to Stroudsburg in the first round.
CeCe LeBus and Liz Hozza won against Liberty at three doubles but lost to Easton, and Lauren Haggerty and Kasey Zelienka won against Whitehall but lost to Nazareth at four doubles.
On Saturday, Northampton played its second match of the season against Parkland in team districts but lost 3-2.
The Angle sisters will continue Northampton’s tennis season at the District 11 Doubles Tennis Tournament scheduled for next week.
