Two weekends of festive fall fun in the township
Whitehall Township plans two back-to-back weekends filled with fun and enjoyment for the public - its annual Halloween parade Oct. 9 followed by the fall festival Oct. 15.
With parade entries being booked as the deadline approached, the township’s recreation director, Greg Mooney, said Whitehall High School Marching Zephyr Band will lead the parade. Freedom High School’s Bethlehem Fife and Drum Corps and Allentown Hobo “Almost” Marching Band are among the musical organizations also in the line of march.
The 2 p.m. afternoon parade begins on First Avenue in West Catasauqua, proceeds down Third Street in Fullerton, continues to Jefferson Street and ends at Fullerton Memorial Park.
The parade theme changes each year; this time around, it is simply Halloween.
There will be floats but not the large grand ones seen decades ago.
The township’s five fire stations will have fire trucks in the line of march, as will others from communities in the region.
Youth athletic teams and cheerleaders will be represented as well. Dance studio schools will participate, performing in front of the review stand at Third Street and First Avenue.
Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission will have a small float, as its haunted hayride will provide some scary moments.
The township’s fall festival is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Whitehall High School campus, 3800 Mechanicsville Road.
The event will feature activities, food vendors, horse-drawn carriage rides, pumpkin painting, a bike course, tractor rides, music and school club displays. There will be more than 40 displays.
Around the flag pole area, attendees of the event can participate in National Guard’s climbing wall and see Mission BBQ’s truck.
Performing 11 a.m. is Whitehall Chorale; noon is Mike Lynn Band; 1:15 p.m. is Kim Bydlon, a 2011 Whitehall High School graduate; and 2:15 p.m. is Todd’s Marshal Arts School.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative.
