During a preliminary hearing Monday at the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas, Magisterial District Judge Robert Hawke ordered Jason John Myirski, 36, of Northampton, to stand trial for criminal homicide for causing the death of his father, Joseph Myirski Jr., Aug. 9.

As previously reported, Northampton Borough police officers responded to a call 3:17 a.m. Aug. 9 of multiple shots fired at the Myirski home, 2350 Main St.

According to borough Police Chief Ronald Morey, when officers entered the residence, they ordered Myirski out of a bedroom of the home, at which time the “officers heard another shot.”

A criminal complaint obtained from Hawke’s office also said borough police officers found Myirski upstairs and were successful in getting him to surrender after another shot was fired in the room Myirski was in.

Police officers found Joseph Myirski upstairs, deceased, the complaint said.

The complaint also said the firearm was located by a police officer in the same room as Myirski and secured by police.

Attempts to resuscitate Joseph Myirski were unsuccessful, the complaint said.

Myirski is being held without bail in Northampton County Prison.

A formal arraignment for Myirski is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 22 in Northampton County Court of Common Pleas.
