Henry again leading K-Kids

This season, Northampton’s Emily Henry hasn’t approached her senior year unlike any other one.

Henry understands the significance of the year, but a staunch work ethic and dedication has her sights on helping her team achieve a strong finish. It has been a consistent mantra for her over the past four years.

The Konkrete Kids began the week with an overall 7-3-1 mark and in the thick of the East Penn Conference playoffs.

‘’We have been doing well,” said Henry, one of 11 seniors on the squad this year. “We lost nine seniors last season, but we knew we were all confident of our abilities coming into this season. We have adapted well to our new coach and we want to make a run at the conference playoffs and get a good spot in districts.

“I just want to go out there and play as hard as I can and do whatever I can to help my team.”

New head coach Carrie Saul didn’t take long to recognize Henry’s contributions. Henry led the team in scoring last year and has been among the team leaders this season.

“She is truly one of the leaders of the team,” said Saul. “When I came here, I knew she would be a key component of the team. She works incredibly hard and is willing to do whatever she can to help us win.

“She has really blossomed into a consistent player over the past two years.”

Henry began playing field hockey in seventh grade after playing soccer most of her childhood. However, the transition was a smooth one.

“It all became pretty naturally to me,” stated Henry. “I was used to the fitness aspect because of all the running, and I had to get used to the stick work. But I knew it was a good fit for me.

“When I got to high school, it took a while before I finally felt comfortable with everything. It was last year that I felt I had gotten over the hump. Everything seemed to click and I felt good being in a leadership role.”

Henry plans to attend St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia next fall to extend her field hockey career. She will pursue a degree in health administration, a field that has had family involvement through the years.

“St. Joe’s was a perfect fit for me,” noted Henry. “When I visited the campus, I fell in love with everything.”

The Kids defeated Pleasant Valley on the road on Tuesday, 4-1.

Henry scored first for NHS. Adding goals were Olivia Daniels, Morgan Mullen and Bryanne Horn.

Henry also recorded an assist as did Daniels and Danielle Straub. The Kids took 22 shots on goal and had seven corners in the win.
