The Rev. L. Paul Bauer

The Rev. L. Paul Bauer, 89, of Whitehall, died Sept. 14, 2016, at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. He was the husband of Joan (Newman) McDonald Bauer and the late Betty M. (Anderson) Bauer.

Born in Camden, N.J., he was a son of the late G. William and May A. (Cramer) Bauer.

He earned a degree in theology from Taylor University, Indiana, and became an ordained minister, serving the Wesleyan domination his entire adult life.

He and his late wife were missionaries in South Africa, 1957-76. He was a pastor in Bangor, Orefield and Roanoke, Va.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Lawrence P. Jr. and his spouse Richard Miller of Sarasota, Fla., Gail D. and her husband Guy Furby of Bredell, South Africa, and Patricia M. and her husband the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Gerig of Bolivar, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Audrey J. and her husband Barry Long of Allentown and Eileen A. and her husband the Rev. Dr. Stephen Lennox of Canada; a brother, A. Russell Bauer and his wife Carol of Greenville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

A service of celebration and thanksgiving will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 15 in the Zentz Community Center, Fellowship Community, 3020 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall.
