The Northampton girls soccer team’s season has been an up and down one to say the least.
The girls lost their keeper Anna Keffer before the season began.
However, the team started their schedule with a win over Notre Dame and most recently tied Nazareth but unfortunately there were some losses in between.
Against the Crusaders, Abi Czarnicki scored twice on penalty kicks while Rachel Apsley and Breaunna Colonna-Dotter added the other goals in the 4-3 win.
“Well the season started well with the win over Notre Dame, but the schedule has been brutal so far,” said first-year head coach Chaz Saul.
After the win, the team dropped games to some league powers in Whitehall, Emmaus, Central and Parkland, struggling to score goals in that span.
However Saul pointed to their new keeper who has played well this season and kept the team in games.
“One player to note so far has been the play of our keeper Gabby Demchak. She had to be rushed into service with the season ending injury to Anna Keffer,” said Saul. “She has done a remarkable job to date and has been really consistent, especially since she is only in 10th grade and had limited keeper experience last fall.”
Demchak made nine saves in the team’s tie with the Eagles and also played well in a 1-0 loss to Central. She stopped 11 shots against Parkland and eight against Whitehall.
