LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Kids fall to PV on the road

Northampton’s football team stumbled to another loss last week, falling to Pleasant Valley 55-35 on the road.

Pleasant Valley rolled up over 500 yards of offense and led 34-14 at halftime of the blowout.

The Bears had their whole offense rolling, as running back Mike Mitchell ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Brandon Keyes and wide receiver Justin Richardson connected on two scores.

Keyes completed 16-of-21 passes for 278 yards and three scores, with Richardson recording five catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

“We have some key players that are out with injuries and we need to find some players on the team to step up and fill those spots,” said Northampton head coach Mark Scisly. “It was a better performance by the offense, but we still struggled on the defensive side.

“Our guys played hard until the end. We need to work to get better each week.”

Colin Shucker threw for 124 yards and a touchdown for Northampton and Jared Stauffer picked up 141 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Northampton pulled within 34-21 with 9:28 left in the third quarter after a three-yard score by Stauffer, but PV (2-1) answered right back on the first play of their next series, as Keyes hit Richardson for a 73-yard TD strike to kill any momentum.

Keyes then found Brandon Gilleece for an 11-yard touchdown on the Bears’ next drive to make it 48-21.

The Kids (0-3) have now given up 153 points in their three games this season and face a stiff test this week when Freedom (2-1) comes into town looking for redemption following a 27-20 loss to Easton last week.

“Freedom is explosive on offense led by Joe Young (QB) and their defense is aggressive with Brady Hornbaker (LB),” Scisly said. “We need to pick up the blitz on offense and limit big plays on defense.

“Our offense has played well in two out of our three games this year. We just need to build on what we did last week.”
